GREP-Style Inspector Script (Adobe® InDesign)
GREP-styles are a powerful feature in Adobe InDesign for automatic local formatting. But sometimes they are hard to find as they are “hidden” within a paragraph style and also don’t show in the character styles panel in an obvious way.
With this script you can easily detect any GREP-styles in your document. It will show you which paragraph styles contain GREP-styles if there are any in your document. You will see the name of the character style used for the GREP style and the GREP expression that triggers the styling. All in a small dialogue window.
As GREP-styles are based on character styles that are already present in your document, you could convert those GREP styles to local character formatting with a quick GREP find/change. This can be helpful if you have long documents with lots of instances that have been formatted with GREP-styles as they could negatively impact the performance of InDesign.
Update 21. 03. 2025: Script now includes Paragraph and Character Styles folder structure.
Tip: To deactivate a GREP Style place an asterisk (*) in front of the GREP expression.
